Belonging

It’s Not Optional — It’s the Foundation

At the end of the  2023-24 school year, our team was given the opportunity to attend the USC Breakthrough Leadership Institute. A requirement is that we selected a problem of practice or common challenge. After examining multiple campus climate data sources, our team decided agreed that belonging should be our focus.  Our faculty and staff zeroed in on caregiver belonging – the effort was led by a phenomenal Teacher leader. We ended the year intentionally focused on student belonging.

As a school leader I have worked to lead with care — with students and the adults who support them.

Highlights

  • 13 Caregiver Engagement Events  Incredible work led by our faculty and staff (2024-25)
  • Systematic Student Affirmations 4th period rosters with photos only – ensuring all students received a specific affirmation to ensure they felt seen (2024-25)
  • Good News Postcards Faculty and staff sent close to 2000 positive postcards home with specific student affirmations
  • Faculty & Staff Affirmations Whether on social media, morning announcements, school board accountability report shout-outs, post-it notes or individual notes – I continually work to determine new ways to ensure our team feels seen and valued.
